Todd Stone appointed CEO, president of AME

The Association for Mineral Exploration (AME) is appointing a longtime B.C. politician to steer the organization.
The B.C.-based association, which represents the mineral exploration and development sector, announced Monday Todd Stone will become its new president and CEO effective Aug. 5.
“The exploration industry and the AME team will be well served by his broad public and private sector experiences,” said board chair Trish Jacques in a statement.
“We are impressed with his commitment to advocate and work collaboratively to protect and promote the interests of mineral explorers and developers creating opportunities and benefits for all British Columbians.”
Stone served as MLA for Kamloops–South Thompson from 2013 to 2024, representing the BC Liberal Party, later renamed BC United.
He was the minister of transportation and infrastructure between 2013 and 2017. During that time, he also held positions as minister responsible for emergency management and deputy government house leader.
Stone finished fourth in the 2018 BC Liberal leadership and didn’t seek re-election last year, stating on social media that he wanted to spend more time with family.
“I’m inspired by AME’s mission and legacy of protecting a prosperous landscape for mineral exploration that promotes economic growth in British Columbia, respects Indigenous rights and ensures environmental sustainability,” said Stone in a statement.
“The world needs British Columbia’s mineral resources, and AME has a vital role to play working on behalf of our members—big and small—with government and First Nations to ensure British Columbia is positioned as the leading mineral exploration jurisdiction.”
Before being elected in 2013, Stone was the founder and CEO of iCompass Technologies, a company that provides agenda and meeting management software for local governments.
Founded in 1912, AME represents, advocates for and promotes the interests of more than 6,000 members in the mineral exploration and development sector in B.C. and globally.
